Participation in various research, scholarship of teaching and learning, and learning technology events allows us the opportunity to engage with SPEEDS colleagues in other institutions and to present our work to a national/international audience beyond the discipline.
For example, various participants from IT Carlow and UCC presented at EdTech in June 2016. This was a great opportunity for us to meet with colleagues in other institutions. It was the first time most of the social policy lecturers had attended EdTech and we each benefitted from the experience of learning about the state of the field.
Second, we were central participants in the Embedding Digital Literacies in Higher Education Institutions conference in UCC, which was attended by several SPEEDS participants. This was an opportunity to reach and build relationships with colleagues in digital humanities, education, library services, and teaching and learning centres. We also enjoyed an inspiring keynote by Helen Beetham on critical use of digital technologies in teaching and learning, which was highly relevant to our work.
Also, two of our members attended and presented at the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) conference in October. The conference was fascinating and we enjoyed lively conversations with colleagues across the globe.
Several SPEEDS participants from UCC and IT Carlow are presenting at the EuroSoTL conference in Bilbao, Spain in June 2019.
Furthermore, we hosted two events through the SPEEDS project, namely the Digital Day 2017 and the SPEEDS Symposium 2019.
