Enhancing digital skills in teaching and learning practices through specialist projects
Alongside training on basic digital skills, participants engaged in a range of specialist projects at institutional level that were of particular interest locally. These included:
- Collaboration with the CoderDojo Foundation in offering training in using coding to engage young people, targeted specifically at youth workers and youth work educators (UCC)
- Engagement with UCC Skills Centre in delivering a workshop on critical thinking, curriculum development, and assessment for/as/of learning practices (UCC)
- Public scholarship skills development with Jonathan Healy (Newstalk, 2FM, Healy Communications) and Jim Carroll (The Irish Times, RTÉ Brainstorm) (UCC)
- Recognition of students’ digital skills development on the Certificate for Contemporary Living programme, which is delivered to adult learners with intellectual disabilities (UCC)
We also collaborated with the Centre for Continuing Professional Development in offering these workshops, which enabled us to recruit more widely and to invite interest from the wider university and community where appropriate. Participants were awarded further recognition of their efforts by gaining Certificates of Achievement from CPD@UCC. CoderDojo participants also received Certificates of Participation.
